Organizational Status: Independent institute, founded in 1986.

General Description: CPIS is an interdisciplinary research and policy advisory center designed to combine macro and micro approaches in analyzing development policies and programs. CPIS's research focuses on understanding the actual implications of government programs undertaken to improve the lives of people throughout the country. Based on this research, CPIS advises the government on ways to improve both policy formulation and program implementation. CPIS's staff members have research backgrounds in economics, anthropology, sociology, public policy, business, law, engineering, agriculture, architecture, and urban planning. Researchers are trained to work together to gain an understanding of the social and economic processes that affect program implementation and program acceptance by users at the local level as well as of the broader forces that help determine national patterns and trends.
