Organizational Status: Semi-governmental institute, founded in 1972.

General Description: ISSR was established as a public corporation under the jurisdiction of the then Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) by academics, business people, and individuals. ISSR aims to contribute to the economic and social growth of the Kansai area through such activities as research and analysis, policy development and planning, and technology transfer and implementation. ISSR undertakes the following activities to attain its mission: investigative research on the development and application of systems connected with community development, business management, technical development, etc.; training and instruction concerning the development and application of such systems; collection, maintenance, and creation of data concerning the development and application of such systems; and other relevant activities necessary to attain the mission of ISSR.
