Organizational Status: Independent institute, founded in 1961.

General Description: JSRI was formally founded under a license issued by the Minister of Finance. The aim of the institute is to investigate and study subjects relating to the securities economy in general and gather materials relating thereto. In order to achieve its aim, JSRI conducts research into basic theories and fundamental questions concerning securities; conducts surveys and research into the securities systems and market structures of major countries; conducts research on economic and financial trends in Japan and abroad; performs the duties of a coordinator among, and conducts studies jointly with, related academic societies, research institutes, professional organizations, universities, etc., in Japan and abroad; publishes the findings of such research and studies; and gathers materials and data concerning securities and maintains library facilities that are open to the public.
