Organizational Status: Independent NGO, founded in 1970.

General Description: SRDI was established and approved as a nonprofit organization by the Ministry of Finance. SRDI aims to provide appropriate policy alternatives with respect to the needs of Japanese society by conducting surveys and research on planning-programming-budgeting systems (PPBS), policy science, technology development, energy utilization, information systems, and urban and rural issues. The institute utilizes a variety of scientific techniques, such as systems analysis, operations research, and diverse statistical methods. Drawing on Japan's leading experts in university, government, and industry, SRDI seeks to provide effective solutions with long-term perspectives to administrative and fiscal problems.

Annual Budget: USD 17.6 million (2004)
