Organizational Status: Semi-governmental institute, founded in 1986.

General Description: Keeping pace with global trends of deregulation and liberalization, market mechanisms are being emphasized increasingly in the Korean energy industry. KEEI has been gearing its research efforts to reflect industry's shift toward a market-oriented paradigm from the government control and central planning regime. In addition to maintaining an essential energy database and developing models for analysis, the institute has kept an active research interest in pending issues such as electric power and natural gas industry reforms. It has been building a substantial knowledge base aimed at preserving the environment and enhancing energy security through improvements in energy efficiency. KEEI will continue to endeavor to achieve the global goal of sustainable economic growth.
