Organizational Status: Semi-governmental institute, founded in 1974.
General Description: CIDE dedicates to the social sciences, aiming at the development and dissemination of knowledge central to Mexico's economic and political situation. CIDE also offers advanced teaching programs focused on forming intellectually creative and technically adept professionals in the fields of economics, public policy and administration, political science and international relations, law, and history. Research and teaching at CIDE are scientifically rigorous and have a solid empirical grounding and real-world relevance for both the government and private and nonprofit sectors. CIDE is also involved in the creation of accurate and high-quality empirical databases concerning the social sciences. This includes a partnership with Mexico's Statistics Ministry on a countrywide survey and databases on family economics, migratory data, and health information. CIDE's mission is to (1) offer top level international educational programs to talented students of social and geographic diversity; (2) form leaders with ethical values and social commitment for the academic, public, or private sectors; and (3) develop and promulgate socially useful scientific research to improve the quality of life of Mexican people.
