Organizational Status: Semi-governmental institute, founded in 1993.
General Description: IFA was initially established as an organ of the Foreign Ministry, but now, with an independent board and staff, it researches and dissemi-nates information on Nepal's foreign policy objectives and goals. The main objectives and functions of IFA are to provide suggestions and recommendations to the government on short- and long-term foreign policy formulations; prepare concept papers, including strategic analyses, on foreign affairs; organize seminars, workshops, meetings, and conferences to discuss and deliberate on foreign policy issues and recommendations; undertake study and research programs on urgent foreign policy-related issues facing the country; provide training to ministerial officials on foreign policy issues and objectives; update, systematically compile, and publish historical documents and information on foreign policy issues; and establish links with foreign governments, domestic and international NGOs, and concerned individuals.
