Organizational Status: University-affiliated institute, founded in 1983.
General Description: IPS was established by Victoria University, after consultation with senior and former public sector officials, to promote study, research and discussion of current issues of public policy, both foreign and domestic. It forms a link between academic research and public policy, providing independent study of issues important to New Zealand. In 1993, two semiautonomous research centers were established within the Institute: the Health Services Research Centre and Centre for Strategic Studies.
