General Description: IER is a public institution under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport. It is an autonomous research organization with a long tradition in the field of macroeconomic and microeconomic analysis. The Institute for Economics, Statistics and Demography, which joined the Economic Institute to become IER, brought to the newly established institute experience in the field of international trade and sectoral structural analyses. In the 1960s and `70s, significant results were achieved in applying econometric methods and input-output methodology for macroeconomic analysis. Regional studies and economic assessment of important infrastructure projects were also carried out. In the `80s, the institute performed research on strategic studies at the macroeconomic, regional and microeconomic levels. The growing awareness of the importance of entrepreneurship in the late `80s gave rise to new research topics such as strategic planning, financial restructuring of enterprises, business appraisal and feasibility studies.
