Organizational Status: Independent NGO, founded in 1999.

General Description: CASE Ukraine was founded by the Polish CASE Foundation with the aim of promoting research in the economic, political, and social spheres, thereby contributing to the process of development of civil society in Ukraine. CASE Ukraine staff have worked in a number of joint projects with the Harvard Institute for International Development (HIID), the Soros International Economic Advisory Group (SIEAG), the Barents Group, and others. CASE Ukraine is a member of the CASE Network, established by the CASE Foundation, which includes think tanks in Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Georgia, and Kyrgyzstan. As a member of this network, CASE Ukraine can benefit from shared experience, and project staff include local and international researchers working in CIS and Eastern European countries. CASE Ukraine's main areas of focus are (1) macroeconomic policy (tax reform, financial sector reform, fiscal imbalance measurement, demonetization, exchange rate policy, and financial crises); (2) institutional development (the virtual economy, barter, arrears, property rights protection, and nonmonetary transactions); (3) enterprise restructuring and development; (4) the banking sector; (5) trade policy; (6) social policy; and (7) public sector reforms and strengthening reform capacity.

Annual Budget: USD 0.25mln (2006)
