Organizational Status: Independent institute, founded in 1910.

General Description: The Endowment is a private organization dedicated to advancing cooperation between nations and promoting active international engagement by the United States. The Endowment's work is nonpartisan, aims at achieving practical results, and its associates shape fresh policy approaches through research, publishing, and convening and creating new institutions and international networks. Interests span geographic regions and the relations among governments, businesses, international organizations, and civil society, focusing on the economic, political, and technological forces driving global change. Through its Carnegie Moscow Center, the Endowment helps develop a tradition of public policy analysis in the states of the FSU and improve relations between Russia and the United States. The Endowment publishes Foreign Policy, an international politics and economics magazine, which reaches readers in more than 120 countries and in several languages. It produces 30-40 publications each year, including books and reports, working papers, and digital content, and staff publish work extensively in newspapers, magazines, and journals. The Endowment hosts more than 100 events per year, ranging from small, private meetings to larger gatherings of 100-600. The Endowment hosts the Carnegie Endowment Nonproliferation Conference every 18 months. All events are by invitation only.
