Organizational Status: Independent institute, founded in 1976.

General Description: EPPC was established to clarify and reinforce the bond between the Judeo-Christian moral tradition and the public debate over domestic and foreign policy issues. EPPC affirms the political relevance of ethical imperatives-respect for the dignity of every person, individual freedom and responsibility, justice, the rule of law, and limited government-and maintains that moral reasoning is an essential component in the shaping of public policy. EPPC's vision is to (1) deal openly and explicitly with religiously based moral values in addressing contemporary issues and work to clarify the ways in which principles shape the choices that political leaders must make in democracy; (2) analyze the moral reasoning and public policy positions of organized religion, holding that religious bodies ought to be subjected to thoughtful scrutiny as perceived custodians and renewers of deeply held values; and (3) strive to broaden public debate on the ordering of the country's society and its relationship with the rest of the world. EPPC actively seeks to foster moral and political debate across ideological barricades.
