Organizational Status: Independent institute, founded in 1955.
General Description: FPRI was founded as part of the University of Pennsylvania to provide long-term thinking to US officials about the Cold War, then the principal focus. It became independent in 1970, and since the end of the Cold War has focused on ways to promote a peaceful order conducive to democracy and free markets at home and abroad.
