Organizational Status: Independent institute, founded in 1992.

General Description: The institute's mission is to solve interrelated critical global problems by improving the processes and outcomes of global governance. It addresses three global problems, which were selected because they exemplify the general challenge to global governance faced in this era of global transformation: the threat and reality of global climate change, particularly the equity dimensions of mitigation and adaptation; the threat and reality of nuclear war and global insecurity; and the threat and reality of the global economy outpacing ethical governance. The Globalization and Governance Program aims to integrate environmental protection and human rights into the governance of international trade and investment, which it does by conducting research, convening multisectoral workshops, organizing training, building networks and utilizing the Internet to disseminate information widely.

Annual Budget: USD 1.5 million

(As of December, 2002)
