Organizational Status: Independent institute, founded in 1962.

General Description: SCIS continues to serve as a catalyst for enhancing global awareness and understanding as a nonpartisan educational institution. The center accomplishes its mission in today's increasingly complex world through a unique and wide range of programs, publications, and services for educational institutions, businesses, government, and the public. Since its inception, SCIS has played a role in developing the international infrastructure that exists today in the southeastern United States. Through its annual conference series, educational materials, workshops, and other programs, SCIS promotes global awareness and understanding by placing important international issues on the national public agenda. The center serves as a valuable resource for state, county, and city governments, chambers of commerce, and other business and professional groups. Foreign visitors, diplomats, and international delegations who visit SCIS are provided with contacts and information on the national, local, political, economic, and social environment. In addition, the center works closely with educational institutions and civic organizations throughout the United States.
