Our principal activities:

TOKUSHIMA

Tokushima Prefecture, the base of Tokushima Economic Research Institute's activities, is situated in the eastern part of the island of Shikoku. It is about an hour flight from Tokyo to Tokushima by jet plane.

The most important industry in our region is manufacturing. They produce chemicals, pulp, paper, lumber, wood products and so on.

Tokushima is an important supplier of fresh fish and vegetables to Kinki region as well.

As for tourism, we have famous dance festival, called Awa Odori, in August. Many tourists visit Tokushima to see the festival and to dance together every year.

Recent developments in transportation are transforming Tokushima Prefecture dramatically.

Opening of a new express highway and the expansion of road networks and other related projects are making our economy, industry and life very vital.

And in Sept. 1994, the Kansai International Airport opened in Osaka. The new airport is expected to have dramatic impact of the prefecture's economy and industry. Because it is located a mere 70 km from the shore of Tokushima, and it takes only about 80 minutes to go there by boat. This airport now makes it easy for us to visit other countries. And we expect that many foreigners will visit Tokushima and enjoy tourism or do business here.

In addition, the Akashi Straits Bridge is scheduled to be completed in 1998. The completion of this major project will provide a direct overland connection between Tokushima and Kobe, Osaka or other cities in the Kinki region, Japan's second most important economic hub.

We are playing a pivotal role in these exciting times as a regional think tank through reserch and study of Tokushima's economy and industry.
